Assevmonum LTD (“GB Observer”, “we”, “us”) is the data controller responsible for the personal data we process about you when you visit assevmonum.com, subscribe to our journalism or otherwise interact with our services. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it and the rights you have under the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018.

1. Data we collect

When you create a subscription or sign up for one of our newsletters, we collect your name, email address, telephone number, billing details and the content preferences you provide. When you read the site we automatically collect technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device identifiers and the pages you view, in order to deliver and improve our service.

2. How we use your data

We use your data to provide your subscription, send the newsletters you have asked for, personalise the journalism we recommend, prevent fraud and comply with our legal obligations. We do not sell your data to third parties.

3. Lawful bases

We rely on the following lawful bases under UK GDPR: contract (to provide your subscription), consent (for optional marketing and non-essential cookies), legitimate interests (to keep the site secure and improve our service) and legal obligation (to keep accounting and tax records).

4. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences and measure how our journalism is performing. You can manage your cookie preferences at any time using the banner that appears on your first visit or from the link in the footer.

5. How long we keep your data

We retain your subscription data for as long as your account is active and for up to seven years after cancellation, in line with our legal and accounting obligations. Newsletter records are deleted within thirty days of unsubscribing.

6. Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete and port the personal data we hold about you, to restrict or object to certain types of processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, write to [email protected].

7. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you may complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We would, however, appreciate the chance to address your concerns first.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Where the changes are material, we will tell you by email or via a prominent notice on our website at least fourteen days before they take effect.
